2017 NACSA Conference Call for Papers
The 2017 NACSA Conference will be held on August 11th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada preceding the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association on August 12-15. The program committee is chaired by Xiaoling Shu and consists of Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng, Reza Hasmath, Lijun Song, Jun Xu, and Wei-hsin Yu. We welcome submissions on topics of interest to our membership. Papers offering comparative perspectives on the themes of the conference are also welcome. The committee is particularly interested in papers that address the following topics:
- Gender and Sexuality
- Governance and Civil Society
- Health and Well-being
- Marriage and the Family
- Migration, Urbanization and Development
- Organizations, Social Movements, and Social Change
- Stratification and Inequalities
- Open Topic
Both complete papers and paper abstracts will be considered. Paper abstracts may be 1‐2 pages, but must contain sufficient detail to suggest timely completion. Papers to be presented at the ASA are eligible for submission. Provide all authors’ names, organizational affiliations, and email addresses. We welcome submissions of papers in Chinese or English from all scholars, researchers, and graduate students working on or interested in Chinese societies, cultures, and populations in the world. The plan is to have eight sessions convened in a two‐concurrent‐session format, and one plenary session in the afternoon at the end of the conference. We may consider roundtable sessions if the number of submissions is large.

May 1, 2017: Submission deadline.
May 15, 2017: Formal acceptance letters distributed for visa applications.
July 8, 2017: Provisional program available on the NACSA website.
July 28, 2017: Full papers due to organizers/presiders/discussants.

2017 NACSA Student Paper Award Submission Information
The Outstanding Student Paper Award Committee calls for submissions for the award. The Committee is chaired by Emily Hannum, and consists of Feinian Chen, Yingyi Ma and Jun Xu. One paper (published or unpublished) will be selected and the award will be announced and presented with a plaque at the annual banquet.
Papers need to meet the following requirements to be eligible for the competition:
- Paper needs to be authored by student(s) only;
- Student status must be valid as of the end of Spring 2017;
- Paper needs to be written in the language of English;
- Paper needs to be presented at the 2017 NACSA Conference (Abstracts due on May 1); and
- Only complete papers will be considered.
